Doug Broeker has focused his practice primarily on business disputes and transactions, and investment disputes, in trial and appellate courts, since 1980. He has litigated cases from Key West to Pensacola and Jacksonville, in State and Federal Court, and outside of Florida in Houston, Seattle, Newark and New York, and has been involved in arbitrations in the US, the UK, Norway and Italy. His practice has encompassed diverse issues of complex litigation including international business disputes, jurisdictional issues, maritime, catastrophic personal injury and international resort liability. See, e.g. Lugones v. Sandals Resorts, Inc., 875 F. Supp. 821 (S.D. Fla. 1995); T&T. Sports Mktg., Ltd. v. Dream Sports Intern., L.L.C., 129 Fed. Appx. 80 (5th Cir. 2005). Doug enjoys counseling his clients to solve daunting or complex challenges to thrive as stable businesses and, when it is the objective, or opportunity, to successful sale.
Doug has over forty years’ experience litigating and trying cases as well as arguing appeals in numerous Florida Appellate Courts, including the First, Second, Third and Fourth District Courts of Appeal, the Florida Supreme Court, and the U.S.Fifth and Eleventh Circuit Courts of Appeal. In addition, he has appeared as legal counsel before the Florida Bar, Florida Real Estate Commission, and City Commissions and Boards. Doug has devoted thousands of hours to work with community, civic, church and social organizations in capacities from worker to leader including, for example, drafting the City of Miami’s Nuisance Abatement Ordinance, implementing it as legal counsel to the Board, as instrumental in transforming Biscayne Boulevard–and when the ordinance was attacked as a “taking” we successfully defended it to the Florida Supreme Court. See Keshbro v. City of Miami, 801 So. 2d 864 (Fla. 2001); affirming City of Miami v. Keshbro, 717 So. 2d601(Fla. 3d DCA 1998).
Doug, along with Bob, Cynthia and Kadisha, have developed a Firm culture, over decades together, of weaving together their expertise, litigation and business experience with community understanding to provide a collective wisdom of forward thinking advice to guide their clients through immediate challenges to long-term success.
